I had the great honor of being a guest on the DMV’s leading talk show Great Day Washington yesterday (4/28) morning on WUSA9! It was a an early start to my day, and historically speaking, morning isn’t my best friend, but this was worth it. I got to meet the incredible team that makes the show run smoothly and the fun guests that were also apart of the show.
Big thanks to Thomas, Blaire and the whole team at Great Day Washington for treating me like a true artist.
It’s been an exciting month for “That’s What You Do,” which was named a finalist for the 24th annual Great American Song Contest. I’m so touched that this song has had some resonation. ❤️
With nearly 2,000 submissions, “That’s What You Do” was chosen as one of the top 100 songs in 10 different categories and the judges calling it “beautiful, vulnerable and compelling.”
Have you seen the music video yet? Check it out here:
I’ve started a new series called “Cover Song Wednesday” wherein each Wednesday at 2pm est I’ll premier a new cover song that I’ve been working on. To kick it off, here is Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down.”

The awards ceremony took place this past weekend at the Capital Turnaround in DC and featured the DMV’s finest in music creation. ‘That’s What You Do‘ won Best Folk Song. I couldn’t be more honored and proud!
I wrote “That’s What You Do” many years before I came out of the closet. And while I have been out for some time, I wish for just a quick chance to go back and give the most healing hug to that Freddy who wrote this song.
I want to let him know that despite the paralyzing doubts, he will be loved and accepted. He will be surrounded by the kindest humans who support and encourage his growth. He will travel far and make family everywhere he goes. All because he has been liberated by his truth.
Sharing this song is that hug.
Today is #NationalComingOutDay and I’d like to honor all who are struggling with their identity. I offer my story to let you know that you’re not nearly as alone as you feel.
After nearly two years of being closed, Rockwood Music Hall is re-opening Stage 1, the coziest venue to see/play shows in NYC. They’ve invited me to celebrate the re-opening and I couldn’t be more pumped. Please join Marques, Alan and Cian and I for a very special set on Tuesday, March 1st at 8pm. No cover, just very happy vibes!
