TLC’s Creep

No attention goes to show.

When I was in 5th grade I saw TLC open for Boyz II Men at RFK stadium in Washington DC. I remember it being the middle of the summer, I remember it raining and I also remember the electric excitement that jolted my butt off my seat when the lights when down and TLC appeared on stage. And, of course I remember singing at the top of my lungs.

I’ve been playing around with their song “Creep” for quite a while and recently discovered a new sonic home for it. I had a lot of fun recording and making a video of my rendition, and I’d love to share them both with you!

I put the track up on BandCamp and SoundCloud and can watch the video right above.

Alan Stevens Hewitt mixed and mastered the song, so big ups to him!

Give it a download and get your creep on 🙂

Your Lunch Break Playlist Update

It’s the first Friday of the month and you know what that means; BandCamp Friday, my radio show Your Lunch Break, and the very happy marriage of those two events.

If you aren’t aware, BandCamp is a website that allows artists to sell their music and receive a very fair cut of the profits. One thing that makes BandCamp even more special is that the first Friday of every month they wave their 15% revenue share, giving all but the processing fee to the artist. Which is an incredible act of generosity, especially in an uphill industry for independent artists.

I encourage you to take a look around my BandCamp profile today. Perhaps there is an album or song you don’t own yet that you’ve been itching to obtain!? If you spend just one dollar you can rest well knowing that it is going directly to me!

Today’s episode of Your Lunch Break was special because I was able to give love to BandCamp AND to my friends who’ve got music on the site.

Here is an updated Your Lunch Break Spotify playlist featuring most of the songs I played today. I was unable to add Slash ASH and Secret Creatures because they can only be found on BandCamp, but do check them out. And while this playlist is on Spotify, I highly recommend becoming friendly with BandCamp and discovering all of these amazing artists, and so many more.

2021 Goals

This is a fortune cookie fortune that I recently got and it struck many a chord on the good ‘ol heart strings. I often fear that I spend more time contemplating my goals and less time achieving them. Goals require confidence and dedication… which is some scary shit!

It’s no secret, however, that step one of achieving success with any goal is to write it down and get it out there.

Some of my goals this year are standard for me: practice (on the daily), take care of my body (on the daily), take care of my mind (on the daily).

Some goals are a bit unique to this year: grow my web presence (on the daily), release a new album (later this year), make money off of my music (on the daily), go to Alaska (when it warms up).

I’m wondering if you would be able and willing to help me grow my web presence on a few different platforms?

Youtube (currently at: 87 subscribers, goal: 300 by the year’s end)

Spotify (currently at: 177 followers, goal: 450 by the year’s end)

Bandcamp. (currently at: 12 followers, goal: 150 by the year’s end)

In the span of a quick second you can help me get closer to my goal just by clicking the links to subscribe to my YouTube channel, and by following on Spotify and Bandcamp.

I’ve also been working hard on my mailing list and making sure my newsletters are entertaining, brief, and as heartfelt as possible. You can sign up here:

Success! You're on the list.

In a great effort to help artists and labels impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, BandCamp is waiving their revenue share today, May 1st, giving the artist 94% of all sales. This is such a generous move and truly makes BandCamp a platform that has the artist’s best interest at heart. I’ve been happy to have my music on their site for over 10 years; it has been a wonderful outlet for me.

If you’re looking for a way to help your indie artist, download some new (and old) music today! I’ve got my entire discography up there and would be thrilled with any support that you’re able to give. Maybe you’re also looking to discover new music? Take some time today to browse around the site. Your next favorite band is just a click away!
