It’s the first Friday of the month and you know what that means; BandCamp Friday, my radio show Your Lunch Break, and the very happy marriage of those two events.
If you aren’t aware, BandCamp is a website that allows artists to sell their music and receive a very fair cut of the profits. One thing that makes BandCamp even more special is that the first Friday of every month they wave their 15% revenue share, giving all but the processing fee to the artist. Which is an incredible act of generosity, especially in an uphill industry for independent artists.
I encourage you to take a look around my BandCamp profile today. Perhaps there is an album or song you don’t own yet that you’ve been itching to obtain!? If you spend just one dollar you can rest well knowing that it is going directly to me!
Today’s episode of Your Lunch Break was special because I was able to give love to BandCamp AND to my friends who’ve got music on the site.
Musicians On Call is a beautiful organization that brings music to the bedside of patients in healthcare facilities. I’ve been volunteering with them for over two years now and have had some very moving experiences. To me, it is further proof to me that music is so much more than an industry and vehicle for fame. It’s magical and it heals.
I’m truly honored to be a volunteer, and glad they’re able to work this new era of digital performances into their mission statement!
